If you need a certified copy of a birth or death certificate from another state, you must contact that state's vital records office. Under Louisiana law, birth records are strictly confidential until 100 years after the year of birth and death records are strictly confidential until 50 years after the year of the death.

This service only issues certified copies of microfilmed birth certificates for births that occurred in Louisiana between 1819–1920. The database also contains birth records for births that occurred in Orleans parish as early as 1790; however, microfilmed birth certificates may not be available for many of these older records.
